Overnight Full Closure of Topanga Canyon Blvd for Slope Repair

Topanga Detour Route

Motorists Will Be Detoured to Malibu Canyon Rd. and  Las Virgenes Rd.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced full closures of Topanga Canyon Blvd. (State Route 27) between Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1) and Grand View Dr. in Topanga for an emergency project to repair and restoration to eroded slope embankments along the highway. This year, the hillsides along Topanga Canyon Blvd. had multiple rock and debris slides onto the highway, triggering full closures of the highway for days.

On Monday, July 1, and Tuesday, July 2, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., the following closure will be in place:

  • Topanga Canyon Blvd. between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Dr.

There is will be no road work or TCB closures from July 3 to July 7. Work is expected to resume on July 8.

All work is weather permitting and subject to change.

Signs will be advising motorists to use US-101, Las Virgenes Road, and Malibu Canyon Road as an alternate route. Motorists should expect delays and are strongly advised to use alternate routes or avoid the area. The town of Topanga will remain open to motorists.

Drivers can check traffic conditions before they leave by visiting the Caltrans Quickmap.

Caltrans reminds drivers to be “Work Zone Alert” and to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
