SCE Meeting to Address Community Questions About "Public Safety Power Shutoffs" on October 9, at King Gillette Ranch

Southern California Edison is hosting a community meeting for Topanga, Malibu, Hidden Hills, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, and Westlake Village residents to discuss the Wildfire Mitigation Program, including the controversial proposed "Public Safety Power Shutoff" system, which will allow SCE to shut down power in High Fire Risk areas, including Topanga, during "extreme fire conditions," like high wind events. Bring your questions and concerns to the community meeting on Tuesday, October 9, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the King Gillette Ranch.

"The fire danger posed by utility company equipment in the Santa Monica Mountains is very real," LA County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl said in a statement this week. "We’re glad that Edison has put forth a proposal for mitigating that danger. At this point, relevant County departments need to assess the potential impact of that proposal. We are also hearing from our constituents who have concerns. We have asked County departments, including the Fire Department, Public Works and the Office of Emergency management, to assess the public impact of this proposal as quickly as possible, so we can get a comprehensive understanding of how the proposal might impact communities and how we might mitigate those impacts so that people in Malibu and surrounding communities are better protected from utility-related fires, and at the same time, have what they need in the event of a fire-related power outage."
