So, a wonderful group of volunteers in Topanga (Canyon Sages, the Topanga Community Center and other amazing Topangans) have banded together to help our most vulnerable residents get what they need.

LA County Dept. of Regional Planning to Present Draft Climate Action Plan

The LA County Dept. of Regional Planning (DRP), in collaboration with the Chief Sustainability Office (CSO), is working to update the county's Climate Action Plan. A draft of the plan was released on March 5, and it will be presented to the Regional Planning Commission as a discussion item on Wed., March 11. The draft lays out targets and strategies intended to guide us toward a bath to carbon neutrality by 2045.

Topanga loves its woodsy, bohemian, creative and independent lifestyle. It treasures the natural beauty, the do-it-ourselves community spirit, and appreciates a deep sense of privacy. But that privacy can come at a cost. Topanga has been designated a "hard to count" area when it comes to the census count. Educated and for the most part prosperous, Topanga might seem a surprising choice for the designation. But those who know the Topanga region well say that just getting the word out in this diffuse, rural community can be difficult, especially among the elderly.
CA State Parks and RCDSMM Are Working on a Topanga Lagoon Restoration Project
The Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains is teaming up with CA State Parks to restore the Topanga Lagoon, so that endangered Southern California steelhead trout have a better chance of safely passing through local creeks. The project, funded by the CA State Coastal Conservancy, will also be focused on enhancing visitor use and accessibility, a new visitor center, lower-cost accommodations, and more. View the presentation and comments from the first public meeting, on Feb. 29, and share your own comments with the project team before April 15.
