Climate Vulnerability Assessment Survey

Help Create a Resilience Plan for the Santa Monica Mountains
Posted: February 18, 2021, 3:30 p.m.

Malibu Foundation is collaborating with the Resource Conservation District, Climate Resolve, the Los Angeles Emergency Preparedness Foundation, LA County, and local universities to prepare a community-based climate vulnerability assessment and resilience plan for the region.

This plan will have a special focus on extreme heat and fire, and an emphasis on the most vulnerable — including seniors and day laborers.

The goal of the project is to provide a gap analysis of the community’s capacity to respond to the shocks and stressors of climate change, and produce an actionable report with mitigation and adaptation recommendations for the greater community and local municipalities.

But the team needs help from area residents!

If you live and/or work in the greater Santa Monica Mountains region (Malibu, Calabasas, Topanga, Pacific Palisades, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills, or Westlake Village) we ask that you take a moment to complete the anonymous Climate Vulnerability Assessment Community (CVA) Survey.

You can expect the survey to take between 20 to 40 minutes to complete and contains up to 67 questions in the following categories:

1. Demographics

2. Climate Change & Woolsey Fire

3. Extreme Heat

4. Wildfire

5. Floods

6. Communications & Mobility

7. Mitigation Sustainability & Preparedness

After you have completed your anonymous survey, you will have the option to be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Winners will be randomly selected after the closing date, March 15, 2021. You must live and/or work in the community to participate.

Afterward, you will have the opportunity to participate in a brief video survey using your webcam or phone camera. City of Malibu Mayor Mikke Pierson will ask you two questions about your thoughts on climate resilience, and we want to hear what you have to say! Participation in the video segment is NOT necessary to enter the raffle.
