New COVID-19 Relief

RegionalCovidFund sm

New relief available for small businesses, nonprofits, and renters in Topanga

As COVID-19 continues to pummel our communities and place a huge financial strain on residents and businesses alike, we wanted to make sure our local residents and businesses were aware of both new and existing grant funds that they can and should apply for now. Deadlines are looming, so please apply today.

I. SMALL BUSINESS and NONPROFIT GRANTS up to $15,000 - Topanga businesses and nonprofits are currently eligible to apply for grants ranging from $5,000 to ~$15,000 from LA County to pay for a wide variety of Covid-19 expenses, including some basic operational expenses. Details of this program, as well as funding deadlines (one is imminent), are available here: https://www.lacovidfund.org/grants

*Note that several Topanga businesses have already successfully applied for and received these funds. Every business is encouraged to apply now. There are three rounds of funding remaining. Please do not miss your opportunity to receive this emergency relief.

II. EVICTION MORATORIUM APPLIES to BOTH BUSINESSES and RESIDENTS - The Board of Supervisors has extended the eviction moratorium for both businesses and residents through September 30, 2020. It should be noted that all tenants have a FULL YEAR to repay back rent (without reprisal or late fees). If a commercial or residential landlord tries to evict you for any reason during this time, you can contact the Los Angeles County Consumer and Business Affairs office for immediate assistance. They have a special "Disaster" hotline and website that deals specifically with emergency issues and requests:

Website: lacountyhelpcenter.org
Phone: (833) 238-4450, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

III. SUBSTANTIAL RENTAL RELIEF for RESIDENTS - In addition to the eviction moratorium, which has been extended through September 30th (for both residents and businesses), LA County has received approximately $100 million in rental relief funds. Half of it is allocated to extremely impoverished areas while the other half will be distributed across the wider LA County area to folks who need financial assistance during this particularly challenging time. Applicants can apply for rental subsidies equaling $2,000/month (and up to $10,000 in back rent). More details and an online application will be available soon (anticipated release date is on or before August 16th).

IV. TOPANGA CHAMBER to DISCUSS ONGOING SMALL BUSINESS and NONPROFIT CHALLENGES at the next Topanga Town Council general meeting - On Wednesday, August 12th at 6 pm, we will hold our next monthly Town Council meeting. In addition to getting updates from the CHP, Sheriff, and Fire Department, we will be focusing the meeting on the challenges facing our small businesses today. We will discuss ways that our legislators have and can continue to support them as well as what we within the community can do to help our local nonprofits and small businesses thrive. Featured speakers to include the Topanga Chamber of Commerce and local small businesses.
