"Topanga Cares" Program Offers Pandemic Relief to Topangans in Need Via Food and Hygiene Supplies
Article posted:  June 20, 2020, 7:00 a.m.

Since March, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed everyday life for many Topanga residents. With so many unknown factors at this time, several Topanga non-profits are teaming up with L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl’s office to bring some relief to Topanga neighbors in need. Leading the coordination is the Topanga Community Center and Canyon Sages, which has implemented a "Topanga Cares” program helping vulnerable canyon residents since March 13. This new grant will augment the existing program, which will continue to help home-bound residents.

The Community Center is responsible for a community development block grant for a food and toiletry giveaway program in Topanga. The TCC is teaming up with the Canyon Sages, Topanga Town Council, Topanga Chamber of Commerce, and other Topanga entities performing outreach who are all helping to make this program take off.

Beginning this month, those facing any kind of food or personal hygiene insecurities in the canyon will now have access to meals and toiletries at the Topanga Library parking area three times per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 3:30-5). The meals will be provided by three Topanga restaurants, Cafe 27, Rocco’s Cucina, and Waterlily Café. Anyone in need of a meal may pick one up on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday at no charge.

The information that is asked on the sheet will be kept confidential and will only be used to determine number of meals required. Please fill out as much or as little of the questionnaire you feel is appropriate we do need a first name, number of meals desired, and days of the week you'd like to participate. In addition, if you are a senior or have a condition that makes you especially vulnerable to the virus and are in need of a mask, please call (310) 455-3001 or email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Finally, some limited personal hygiene products will be distributed for those in need.

How to get a meal:

Fill out the form below! The TCC is only using this for its own accounting, and to be able to tell our restaurants how many meals to make and need to account for them for the grant.

Ways to fill out the form:

- Click here to complete the form online.
- Click here to print the form and turn in at Waterlily Cafe or Cafe 27.
- Over the phone. Call the TCC at 310-455-1980 and leave them a message. Tell them your name and which days you would like a meal, and if you are not picking up personally, who will be getting your meals for you. Then come on the first day of meal service to complete the rest of the information.
- In person. You do not need to pre-register, but pre-registration will guarantee your meal. If you would rather register in person, simply come to the library on the first day of meal service.
